Time in a Bottle

Yesterday right in the middle of the frozen foods aisle at Kroger's, I was transported back to 1974. They were playing Jim Croce's Time in a Bottle and I instantly found myself thinking of that young teenage girl who used to play this record over and over. Yes, I realize I am dating myself here especially with the record reference. It was a record, not a CD, not a cassette, not even an eight track but an old fashion record. And I remembered all the lyrics and how they touched the heart of a over dramatic teenage girl and I loved standing there listening to it until someone came over the intercom and announced something and then I was annoyed because I wanted to hear the whole thing without interruption. LOL Here are some of the lyrics to the song:

If I could save time in a bottle

The first thing that I'd like to do

Is to save everyday til eternity passes away

Just to spend them with you

If I could make days last forever

If words could make wishes come true

I'd save everyday like a treasure and then

Again I would spend them with you

But there never seems to be enough time

To do the things you want to do once you find them

I've looked around enough to know

That your the one I want to go through time with

If I had a box just for wishes

And dreams that would never come true

The box would be empty except for the memory

Of how they were answered by you

Such a beautiful song and lyrics. I don't have my Jim Croce record anymore. My sweetie sold all of my records at a garage sale for $10.00 years ago(bad sweetie) LOL. I even had Carol King's Tapestry record which has another one of my favorites from back then called It's too Late, loved that song also. So I was wondering, what song or songs take you back to a time in your life?

When we sold my husband's stereo, we kept his records (which he thought was foolish at the time). Years later I bought one of those counter top CD/tape/record/radio things which looks old fashioned. We have fun playing records now. Our little one says, "can we play the big black CD's?"

I was a teen in the 80's so I remember songs like "Physical" from Olivia Newton John or Hall and Oats.

Oh Joan, how funny. I remember that one too. Jim Croce was great! I still have heaps of my old 45rpm records. My DH threatens every now & then to throw them out. Not a chance. They're my teenage memories.

Oh...I loved that song too. What a beautiful message.

Isn't it amazing how a song or a smell or a taste can transport us back in time?! I love it when that happens.

Hugs!

This is a great post! I love that Tapestry album--I think I have it with my old albums from high school and college wich I saved (but they are probably ruined from time spent in the garage!) How about Carly Simon's Your So Vain?

Hi Joan :)

Thank you for the welcome back.

I'd have to say that The Grease album or anything by Olivia Newton John takes me back. Also Barry Manilow or Neil Diamond :) Funny thing is, my son just asked me for all my old records because vinyl is back in. He's 17 LOL Crazy isn't it?!
