Travel Tuesday ~ Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Sea

I know it's been forever since I have done a Travel Tuesday and I've missed taking trips. So today we are going on a cruise. This particular ship is not even out on the sea yet but it is creating alot of buzz in the travel business. Why? Well, I am glad you asked. The biggest talk centers around the massive "Central Park" at the center of the ship that has trees, live grass and outdoor restaurants. Royal Caribbean will be launching a new line of these ships in the coming years with the Oasis to come out in 2009. The Central Park area will run the length of a football field down the center of the ship and will be lined with five decks of cabins and will be open to the air six decks above. If it's raining outside of the ship it'll be raining in the Central Park area also. Below are pictures of what the ship will look like. Okay so why am I so excited about this ship? Well, it will be something new and interesting and the ship will be a destination in itself. I am a big fan of Royal Caribbean and I do hope I get to see this beauty someday.

There will be 254 cabins with balconies that overlook Central Park and you can people watch all day and night.
During the day the Central Park area is designed for a quiet peaceful area to hang out but at night there will be alfresco dining and outdoor concerts.
The park will be surrounded by five or six restaurants and bars. One of the bars is being billed as the first moving at sea bar. It's called the Rising Tide and it will slowly glide up and down three decks from the base level of Central Park downward to the lower levels of the ships. It'll be a big ship weighing in at 225,000 ton and able to hold 5,400 passengers. It's amazing to me that these ships are so massive. Just a note, big gigantic ships are not everyone's cup of tea. I know that. I've been on small ships and I've been on big ones and have enjoyed the different things that each one offers. Personally I just love to cruise. Hope you enjoyed a look at what's new and exciting in the world of cruising. Happy Tuesday!!

We just got back from an Royal Caribbean cruise (in fact, that's where my new profile picture was taken) and I think I am a bigger ship person. Although the Enchantment was nice, I got bored on it and the common areas were way overcrowded.

Hi Joan :)

I'm either a small ship (actually old and tiny like The Delta Queen Paddle Boat) kinda gal or I want to go on the QM2 :)

This does look neat though :)

Wow! That's one huge ship! Crusing is the only traveling adventure that I've totally refused to embark on. I got seasick once on an overnight cruise on Chesapeake Bay, took me two weeks to get over it, I've been afraid to get out of sight of land ever since.

Our first (and so far only) cruise was on Voyager of the Seas and we really enjoyed that. The promenade seemed so big on that one I can imagine how big this central park area would be!

Ok...first an apology...I have been MIA as of late and have not done a very good job of keeping up with my dear friends in blog land...for that I apologize...sometimes I just don't have time to leave a comment but I do always try to keep up with everyone. I always appreciate that you leave me the sweetest comments on my blog...thanks!

Now...for the whole blog you did on menopause...sweetie...I think I could have written that blog...seriously...I am having a very rough time with the ole MP at this time...I was bothered with it a little less than a year ago...it seemed to subside...NOW it has returned with a vengance...I have an appt. with the doctor next week...and he better not say...uh huh...yea...you're going through menopause and then proceed to tell me his silly joke about it! I think if he does...I'll just have to reach up and slap him...right after I swipe his prescription pad!!

Speaking of cruises...and BTW...this one looks to be awesome! I just can't believe they will have a cruise line with Central Park in the middle of it all...do you think there is a chance we could see Sarah Jessica Parker? or one of the sex and the city gals? LOL. My poor, poor sister is on a cruise at this very moment...in the GULF of MEXICO...trying desperately to skirt around Hurricane Dolly...she just emailed me and told me most everyone is holed up in their cabins b/c of motion sickness...and if you do venture out...you better watch your step. She seems to be doing fine...taking dramamine...but her poor hubby is a bit down...and her son is having such a good time...with his buddy singing in the Karaoke? lounge....she says he and his bud were the life of the party last evening...I can just see that little stinker now.

Thanks for the travel tip on the cruise...and DID I ever tell you that once you mentioned something about Travelsmith.com and some of their great traveling clothes...well, I did order a couple of things from them...a pair of WONDERFUL black travel pants...that I wear everywhere...and great black skirt...a couple of blouses and a denim jacket that I wore over and over again last winter...and can't wait to wear it again...thanks for the heads up on their site...I recommend it highly...the clothes are reasonably priced...travel GREAT...and look pretty darn good on this 51 year old menopausal mama!! You gotta love that...especially when you find a clothing line that is good at hiding flaws! Of course black is always good for that...and it's a staple in my wardrobe!

Blessings...
Teresa

How creative for a cruise ship. It looks like so much fun! I've never been on a cruise but I think this one would be a blast. (I worry about seasickness!)
