I can relate to this cartoon that was in our Cincinnati newspaper this morning and I didn't even lose power after the high winds came through. You really don't realize how much you take for granted having power and gas and fresh foods until you can't get them and you have no control over being able to get them. I was able to get gas the other day without waiting too long in line and the grocery stores around here are all fully up and running and they have fresh foods like veggies and cold foods like milk and eggs. So I was a happy camper coming home from the grocery. We have decided to make sure we have dry foods and can foods along with flashlights etc.. available in our home all the time. We are very familiar with tornadoes here in Cincy but I think this tail end of a hurricane was one for the record books. Here's a few more photos of the damage.
This one is a headstone in a graveyard that was pulled up by a tree that was knocked over. Amazing......................... So the cleanup is still underway and I think most people have power back and the schools went back today also. Some lost their lives because of Ike around here, including a young couple on a motorcycle that was hit by a tree. They had a six month old daughter, so sad.
Anyway, this photo was also in our paper this morning and I just couldn't resist posting it. Is this not the cutest little puppy? I think it was some kind of dog days at the Great American Ballpark yesterday. The Reds have had a lousy season but the dog is too cute. Have a good one!

So glad you are safe and things are getting back to normal. Good decision to stock up on the necessities.
Ike sure did make his impact felt...What a mess!
That pooch is too cute...
Yeh, I finally got my computer up and working. Pippi's school finally had power today but they went yesterday in the dark - it really wasn't bad! There are still some of her friends without power - we were out for 48 hours, I can't imagine being out for going on 5 days!
I keep hoping that we've seen the last of the likes of Ike and his gang...at least for this year! I am stocking my pantry with everything conceivable that we would eat even if not desperate! No liver pates, yuck, but lots of vienna sausages lol!
I'm told it's made from snake legs and chicken lips so how bad can they be?

Once we had this horrible ice storm and were without electricity for 2 weeks. The worst part of the experience was how bored our kids were, they nearly drove me crazy without their TV.
Yeah, that was a crazy scary storm...and we only got a tiny taste of it! But I completely agree with you, we really take so much for granted. We didn't have power for 30 hours and it was horrible.
And, like you, I am now very prepared for the next time.
I'm glad things are getting back to normal for you. That storm was awful.
Love the Red dog! Too cute!
Reds, not red, lol...sorry!
Yeah, we went to the Dog Day with the Reds with Gilmore last year, it was lots of fun. We weren't able to go this year, I don't think Libby is ready for her first Reds game yet.
Ooooh Joan those hurricanes are scary things. Im so glad we dont have them here. My sweet friend sarah @gypsymermaid blog lives in Texas and has lost everything due to Hurricane Ike.
Its just so sad.
But on a bright note that lil poochie is super sweet!

Funny cartoon - and the photos Wow! We really do depend upon power, and now the internet. When the power goes out here we're so isolated. 2 hours to a town of any size.
