Here are my posse of girls at the coffee house the other day, minus my youngest daughter Christina who stood us up with some excuse about working a 24 hour shift and needing to get some sleep. What kind of excuse is that? LOL My daughter Melissa is on the left and then there's my granddaughter Maddie and my niece Stephanie, who we all consider part of our immediate family. I think I already told you about her Mom who was one of my best friends and who died when Steph was really young. Some day I'll write a post about my unlikely friendship with the southern beauty queen who would have been a part of our girl power today if she was still here. Stephanie was at our home a lot while growing up and she was the target of my sweetie's infamous lectures more than once. Now with Melissa's and Jamiel's new baby girl (yet to be named) coming we will have yet another girl to add to our group and if my son and Allison allow us we will add their little boy to our mix. :-) The only boy who we will let be in our girls group.
The coffee house has a little play area for kids so parents can drink their coffee and talked and their kids can play with all the toys. Maddie was having a ball playing with Steph.
Okay now I am going to bounce to the subject of aging. I don't know about you but sometimes in my mind I am still that fresh face young 16 year old in the above photo with my sweetie in 1972, so it comes as a shock to me when the aging stuff quite literally smacks me in the face like the other day. The other day I am getting ready to put on my makeup when I noticed in my mirror what looked to me as an eyelash under my eye, so I'm trying so hard to get the eyelash off, rubbing and trying to pick it off, when all of a sudden I realize that it's not an eyelash at all, no it's a deep set wrinkle under my eye. Okay, don't laugh at me, my eye sight is bad in my defense. And then of course I start really inspecting what's going on underneath my eyes and am shock to realize that I have become am almost 52 year old woman. Where did she come from? And why didn't I see her sneaking up on me? I could have planned an attack measure. Now, don't get me wrong, I would not go back to being that 16 yr old again, I love this time of my life, I'm just not sure I'm ready to embrace my winkles just yet. So maybe when I look in my mirror I should be seeing this little old lady:
But isn't she cute and dressed so stylish with all of her jewelry and white gloves? Truth is I am somewhere between that 16 yr old fresh face girl and that cute little old lady(though I want to be just like this lady when I get to her age, she's stylin') and I'm becoming comfortable with that. And with that said I am going to the hairdresser tomorrow to get the gray dyed out of my hair. Ugh, a girl just can't win.

Girl! You're preaching to the choir! I soooooo know what you mean. Who is that older woman in my mirror. And in my body. In my mind, I'm still much younger.
Cute photo of you and your girls. Just wish you had handed someone your camera so you could be in the pic too.
I love your "sweet" 16 picture! You two look so cute together. Melissa looks so much like you, only darker hair.
So nice to have time with the girls and you have a nice bunch of girls to hang out with for sure!
The photo of the 16 year old you was darling - but I think you are still beautiful and I too have trouble looking at my aging face in the mirror sometimes. In my head - I am not nearly as old as I am beginning to look.
Hope you have had a great weekend - see you soon. Kellan
Last Summer, I went to the "parlor" and let my hair dresser convince me I should get my hair frosted...I just can't explain how I felt afterwords except to say I felt guilty!!lolol
I EARNED my grey hair! And proud of it. It's almost grown out (halfway) now...can't be soon enough for me! LOL
Enjoy the lines...to me, they are the roads we've traveled...and I don't regret any of the trip!
Have a fun night!
Hi Joan, oh whilst Jacqui is only 17, I share your thoughts, every year some new lines appear, no gray yet but it's just around the corner! I loved being young but like you would not swap it now for the world :)
It is so nice for all you girls to catch up, lovely photos!
Oh and about the Raffaello's, they are crispy, creamy almond coconut candy made by Ferrero Confetteria and they are just divine!
Lastly, promise!! Australia Day is the biggest day of celebration in our country, it's a public holiday in all our states and territories.
On Australia Day we come all come together to celebrate and reflect as a nation on what's great about Australia and being Australian.
Many immigrants become Australian citizens in Ceremonies around the country on this day and our Prime Minister announces the Australian of the Year Awards. There are parties and fun all around the country from the outback towns to the cities!
Well you will have had enough of us by now, so will fly off :)
Have a lovely week Joan :)

Oh Joan,
Having just turned 40 I've been feeling that same way when I look in the mirror and think oh now, when did I get old! I feel so much younger inside. LOL
Hope you had a wonderful time at the hairdressers and have a fabulous week.
Blessings,
Sandy :)
I want to be that woman when I grow up. Except for one thing... not the wrinkles or even the worried look on her face... you won't be finding me in a wedding gown!
Love it ~=D
Well. So I guess you've ALWAYS been beautiful, huh? (she said with just a touch of envy!)That picture of you when you were 16 is BEAUTIFUL - don't you hate that the quality of our snaphots from way back then are such that the colors don't stay true????.
You're touching up gray, I'm trying to grow gray out. I guess that means I've given up the battle. ha! I keep seeing the circles under my eyes getting deeper and deeper. When did this happen? And when did I get creases on my FOREHEAD? I was thinking just yesterday that I used to put on my make-up and look pretty decent. NOW I put on my make-up and I really don't see a difference. I think I need to go to Merle Norman and tell them to do their best...if they can show me a change, I'll buy one of everything they sell. lol Hey...now that I think about it, that's really not such a bad idea. :)
I'm off to soak in the tub for an hour or two...I know that'll make me feel young and lovely. (or is that being overly optomistic? ha,ha)

I am 34 and trying to come to terms with aging. I still feel about 20 years old. It is hard to deal with!
Thank you for visiting my blog.
Yes, this dishes is valuable to us.
We love them.My mother has handled them with care, she doesn't use to break things.
That little old lady you got a foto from, was very nice.
Have a good day, and enjoy it!
My Lord, I remember the day that I looked in the mirror and saw my mother looking back at me...it was so spooky I think I practically lived in that bathroom looking in that mirror the rest of the day. Mama had passed away just two weeks before...so if anyone catches me gazing in the mirror and talking...I'm just talking to someone who's got a little sense...Mama...lol
hugs
Sandi
Great post!

I just love a coffee house, especially one with a play area and nice comfy couches...
Gal...I think you need the young at heart award...please go on over to my place and pick it up!!
Love YOU!
Looks like a day that was enjoyed by all....Smiles
Joan,
Don't worry about the wrinkles. They are beauty and smile lines. Time passes by quickly. I know what you mean. It seems like yesterday that I was 25. In actuality, it was a long time ago.
Thanks for entering my giveaway. Good luck!
Blessings,
Mary
Hi Joan - thanks for coming by - hope you had a good day. See you later. Kellan
Thank you so much 0 I am glad you enjoy it!! (:
I sure can understand the aging thing. Since turning 50; it's all been downhill; at least body wise. By the way, my dermatologist always called old age spots; wisdom spots. I like the sound of that a little better; don't you?
Judy
I keep trying to grow old gracefully and then I go out and buy another bottle of hair color because I can't stand how the gray is coming in!
