Barbie Turns 50 this Year!!

Guess who turns the big 50 this year? Yes, it's none other than the original glamour girl herself, Barbie. Barbie made her big debut in March of 1959, I was only three years old. She's changed alot through the years. The bottom photo is of the original Barbie doll, I actually would love to have one like that. I had lots of Barbie's growing up with little cases that I would put her in and change all of her clothes but I am sad to say I also abused my poor Barbie. Yes, this is tough to admit to everyone but I put her through alot of torture over the years. Once I made a parachute for her and tossed her out our second story window to see if it would work, she fell straight to the ground like a rock. And then another time I wanted her to fly like Superman, so I put a cape on her and tied her to a rope on the back of my bike and went really fast. My theory was if I went fast enough she would lift up off the ground, wrong again........she just ended up with no nose from her face hitting the concrete. And that was just last week. LOL No I'm kidding, I really did all those things to my Barbie but I was much younger.(I like to think I was being creative instead of abusive:-) Okay so maybe I wasn't the best caretaker of my Barbie but I did love her. So Happy big 50 Barbie, you don't look a day over 16! Here's to many more happy years and I hope you and Ken finally tie the knot someday. You can go here to read all about Barbie. I love the front page on their website, it says "it's a Barbie world, we just play in it. Ain't that the truth. :-)

I used to love my Barbies too! I had three of them and also had three brothers, so whatever torture I didn't put them through, my brothers certainly did! I used to make them clothes with kleenex because my parents could never afford to buy much for me! When my daughter was old enough, I bought her tons of Barbies and furniture and clothes, but she never was very interested. I still have them all..hmmm maybe I should dig them out of the basement and have some fun! LOL

That cracks me up!! I guess I was too young to remember that. I can't believe mom let you take care of me - surprised you never strapped me to the back of your bike. ha, ha!!!!!

I remember getting a barbie. What fun! I made up stories for her. The original was such a tartly looking thing, LOL - a lot like a streetwalker!

OMGOSH Joan, Barbi and I have the same birthday! I would love to have that doll too because I abused mine just like you! We would have been great play-mates! :)

I was easily entertained with Barbie too...I remember being quite resourceful with shoe boxes as beds and little lids and things as dishes...ah, the fun! Too bad we had to grow up and buy real people things, they're much more expensive! Happy Birthday Barbie!

How fun! 50 years huh, Who'd would've thought she was that old? I don't remember ever having a Barbie. My sister had one and my cousin had some, so I played with hers. I had a Tressie. Remember her? She was the one that had the hair that grew.
My girls had tons of Barbies and a lot of the paraphernalia that goes along with them. My oldest especially loved them. In fact, she still does. She's 17 and everyone once in a while she still gets them out and plays with them or at least looks at them.

Great post! How's the snow down your way? We have about 1/2inch so far this evening.

Stay safe and warm.

My cousin had Barbie and all of her friends and we'd play for hours. I only ever had 1 Barbie and I loved her even after my sister left her in the yard and Grandpa ran over her with the mower. She was my one-legged Barbie after that.

I didn't have Barbie's, but Patti did. In fact, I still have the one the dog chewed the foot off. Hunter loves Barbie's also. When Patti went to Knoxville, her niece sent 24 Barbie's to Hunter! I'll have to check them out to see which ones.

It's funny how some things just don't change, and amazing that Barbie is still with us after all those years. Great post, Joan!!
