I Really am a Dizzy Blonde!

Since July I have been experiencing some weird dizzy spells. It was really strange and I couldn't figure it out because it comes and goes and it happens in the middle of the night. I usually turn over in the middle of the night and would wake up because of this strange dizziness. It happened again last night at three in the morning and this time it just scared me alot. So I called my doctor first thing this morning because everytime I moved my head I would get lightheaded or dizzy and it turns out I have something called BENIGN PAROXYSMAL POSITIONAL VERTIGO. Basically there is debris within a part of my inner ear(this is the easiest way to explain it), the debris is called ear rocks(does this mean I have rocks in my head). The symptoms include dizziness, vertigo, lightheadedness, imbalance and nausea. Activities which bring on symptoms vary but symptoms are almost always precipitated by a change of position of the head. Getting out of bed and rolling over in bed are common problem motions.

It can be helped by a series of head exercises which I am going to start tonight, the exercises have an 80% cure rate which is so encouraging because this dizzy stuff is driving me crazy. I can function without any problems, I just really have to watch it so I don't jerk my head quick or bend to pick something up until this passes. I am so glad I went to the doctor instead of trying to wait for it to pass again and that I listened to my gut feeling. I do not get online and look up medical stuff on the internet because I have always found that is a sure fire way to get yourself all work up about nothing. I just thank the Lord that it can be taken care of.

So anyway this is the start of my weekend. LOL I am getting ready now to go and see Gran Torino with my sweetie. Both Kari and Kat have written how much they liked the movie and since I didn't think I could get my sweetie to see Marley and Me or Bride Wars this will work. LOL He loves a good Clint Eastwood movie. Hey that guy has to be in his 70's by now! Have a great weekend and I guess I won't be watching Jimmy Stewart in Vertigo anytime soon. LOL I'm behind in posting a couple of awards and I will do it soon, just wanted you guys to know I do appreciate them.

I hope the exercises help and that you're all cured soon! Can they get the rocks out, or will this be an ongoing issue? Enjoy your movie!

I have it too! The exercises helped me some at the beginning, but it never completely went away. I can be fine for a week, and then get dizzy again. Big buildings with tall ceilings make me dizzy too. I'm told that it is because you have a hard time visually locking in on a reference point. My ear feels stuffy all the time (sometimes an aching feeling), and I take musinex to help keep it drained. I feel for ya! I've had this for about 5 years now and just have to be careful. Each person can be different, so I hope you can get it licked!

I know several people with versions of vertigo...
It seems fairly common yet everyone says how damn awful it is!
Hope your symptoms ease though....
I saw Bride wars last night,Very chick flick-ish but good lighthearted.
Wnated to see marley and me but no sessions seemed to ever suit...Oh well one for dvd I guess:)

I occasionally experience vertigo due to inner ear disturbances, too. Nothing severe enough to warrant any further trips to the MD though. Hope you enjoyed Grand Torino. It was filmed in my beloved state. An article in the local paper about the people that owned the house it was filmed at said the they got a whole new porch and front door courtesy of MGM studios and also that Clint Eastwood took a bath in their bathtub. They were not allowed to go anywhere near the house while they were filmimg though so they never got to actually meet him.

Hi,
glad you found out your problem..from a doctor instead of your own diagnosis from the internet!!
I've known a couple of people with this problem and it is workable...they just have to be real careful when they go to the dentist (laying back in his chair too fast) and at the grocery store (looking up at the higher shelves without stepping back and moving your head up slow...
enjoy the movie with your sweetie!!

Wow Joan, I've never heard of ear rocks. Bless your heart...it must have really scared you to have it happen while in bed. I'm so glad you didn't wait around, but got yourself quickly to the doctor. What a blessing to know that exercise will help.

Let me know what you and hubby thought of the movie. I'd actually like to see it again.

Hugs!
Kat

I think I read somewhere that Eastwood is 78 years old. But I'm telling you, when I saw him smacking around that young gang member in Gran Torino, I BELIEVED IT! lol Nobody does "tough" like Clint. Let me know what ya'll thought of the movie, okay?

Hope your exercises work quickly! Let me know about that, too!!

My friend's mother-in-law has the same problem. The exercises have done wonders for her.

Glad you went to the Doctor Joan. That's terrific if certain excercises will cure the problem. Dizziness is no fun. Take care and feel better.

Joan, I hope you are feeling better. At least you know what the problem is, so you can work to fix it. Being dizzy is on the top of my "things I hate" list. Well, maybe tied with rodents. LOL My hubby and I are planning to see Gran Torino today.
