From The Heart

February 6th is wear red day so let's all wear red tomorrow and show our support against heart disease. This is a disease that hits home with me and I know alot of us out there have different causes that we feel the same way about but heart disease is that cause for me. My mom and brother both died very suddenly of massive heart attacks. You can go here and read the post I did awhile back on my mom's death and God's great grace that was given to me. But the fact remains that heart disease is the number one killer of women. Know the facts and go here and get a free heart risk checkup, it takes only a few minutes to do and like they say it can save your life. I want to be here to watch my grandbabies grow up, I want to dance at their weddings. So here are a few ideas from the Go Red site to reduce your risk, be active, choose baked not fried, go here and read some more. Hey, I started adding a few heart healthy almonds(the cocoa ones that" b**ch cakes", talks about are yummy, she has the best weight watcher website I have found) to my diet each day, not only are they delish but have heart benefits to them. Even red wine has heart benefits.

Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now but I can't stress how important this is to women everywhere. So let's go shopping for some red. You can find all of these great items plus more at shop heart. You guys know I love pink but if I can't have pink I'll pick red everytime This is a cute tee shirt, I love anything with sparkle on it.

I love this red brooch.

And I think this hat is my favorite, it'll be perfect to wear when the snow is gone and I can get outside and walk again. So go to your doctor and get your heart checked out and wear red tomorrow. Oh and Macy's is having 20% off for anyone wearing red now through Sunday(guess where I'm going :-)

Also, don't forget about Brenda's Photo Challenge on Saturday. The theme is textures and patterns and you can go here to play along with us. I know this has nothing to do with the go red post but I probably won't post again till the challenge on Saturday! Have a good one and go drink a glass of red wine and eat some almonds and be good to your heart!

Hi Joan

Gosh, it seems like ages since I've been by (bad me! busy me!), so it's taken me awhile, but I've read through all your posts I've missed and I've had fun.

Hugs!
Kat

I went back and read the beautiful story about your mom. It really touched my heart. You were so very lucky to have that special time with her. It just gives me chills that it almost didn't happen an how important it is to pay attention to those little messages that guide our lives.

I'll have to see if I have something RED to wear tomorrow! And I'll glad you are going to do the photo challenge! I've got my pictures finally picked out, heehee!

Love the brooch! Thanks for the links, I'll have to check them out. I rarely eat any fried foods anymore. I'm trying hard to make healthy choices.

THANKS Joan, for posting this...you KNOW my concerns about heart disease as well. After loosing my mother to vascular disease @ age 57, my dad of a heart attack @ age 65...and my brother almost 2 years ago @ the age of 52...I am more than amped up about this terrible disease. It IS the number one cause of death in woman...and men...but unfortunately our medical society has not done as much research when it comes to women and heart disease...so it takes women like you, me and others...to GET THE WORD OUT!

Please if you are reading this and have not had your cholesterol checked lately, if you feel a little "off" or are just concerned b/c of family history...or have developed some bad habits (as we all have) through the years...save your life...and have a check up...listen to your body...you know it better than anyone. If you are wondering why I'm so "crazed" about this...check out my blog and see the struggles I've had just getting doctors to listen to me for the past 3 years! Yea, I have heart disease...and it took 3 cardiologists and one PCP by complete surprise...and this was after I told them...I knew something was off w/my heart. They told me I was too young...just read my story...you'll want to come to Texas and slap my doctors!!

Thanks again Joan...I feel a kinship of "sisterhood" between us...for so many reasons...but this is one that really hits home for both of us.

Now...I'm off to get me one of those darling caps.

Blessings...
Teresa
